IMSS organizes the first Brain Code course for doctors

With this in mind, from April 10 to 14, a total of 27 national and international professors from four countries participate in the First Brain Code Course and Training in Mechanical Thrombectomy for Latin America, organized by the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

The head of Neurology at the Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional (CMN) Siglo XXI, Alejandra Calderón Vallejo, explained that this hybrid course (face-to-face and online), which more than two thousand people with a medical, nursing and health worker profile enrolledit is fundamental to unite efforts to prevent and diagnose a cerebrovascular accident in time.

The Cerebrovascular Disease (CVD) or stroke It is a priority issue for the health sector. It represents the second cause of death in the world and the first cause of disability in adults, while 50 percent of the survivors are left with some kind of sequel.

Topics seen in the IMSS Brain Code course

Dr. Calderón Vallejo highlighted that during this week topics such as: diagnosis, imaging modalities for acute stroke, triage of myocardial infarction in the ER, stenosis, endovascular treatment, radial approach, new tools for mechanical thrombectomy, among others.

He explained that in addition to the presentations, the attendees in face-to-face mode will live a didactic experience simulating a mechanical thrombectomy with the use of technological models that will strengthen what has been learned throughout the course.

In addition, the IMSS will present its Comprehensive Care Protocol (PAI) “Brain Code”. The objective is to standardize care in terms of cerebrovascular events, as well as coordinate preventive, care and rehabilitation actions at the three levels of care.

Training with international endorsement

He said that the Brain Code Course and Training in Mechanical Thrombectomy for Latin America has for the first time representatives of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), in charge of providing education, research and webinars on this topic worldwide. problem.

The head of Neurology at the Hospital de Especialidades del CMN Siglo XXI added that during this course, the WSO will report on the certification process for medical and nursing specialists to incorporate into their institutions and achieve certification in the field of mechanical thrombectomy.

For her part, the neurologist and representative of the WSO, Violiza Inoa Acosta, indicated that training and teamwork are necessary to treat this condition in a timely manner.

“We are different specialists in the area, but we also need the support of the Nursing staff, of the technical staff. We are talking about the importance of knowledge down to a much more basic level like the people who admit the patients or who see the patients at the entrance of the hospital.”

In order to achieve the objectives and strategic lines of the Directorate of Medical Benefits, the Innovation Coordination develops the Brain Code Course and Training in Mechanical Thrombectomy for Latin America. The Mexican Association of Cerebral Vascular Disease, the Ibero-American Society of Cerebral Vascular Disease and the WSO participate, with the representation of countries such as Brazil, the United States, the Dominican Republic and Colombia.
