Peru seeks to position itself in the global video game industry

With the aim of strengthening the international presence of Peruvian video game development companies, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism, PROMPERÚ, resumed its participation in the Game Developers Conference (GDC), the largest event worldwide for professionals in the video game industry.

From March 20 to 24, the promoting entity presented the best of the national offer, publicizing the first business catalog on the production of video games in Peru, at the event held in San Francisco, United States, a meeting point for the development of industry businesses.

The national companies present had the opportunity to establish business contacts with programmers, graphic artists, producers, Publishers, and other managers involved in the development of video games. Likewise, during the event they were able to learn about the new trends in technology and content presented through the various conferences on the future of the industry with important international representatives of the field.

The video game industry in our country is young in relation to other sectors and is made up of more than 40 companies which develop games for desktop, consoles and mobile devices, having generated more than 500 titles in recent years. In addition, the promoting entity has promoted the participation of Peru in the last two editions of Devcon, an important event on the European continent where the games Wira y Taksa, Horatio, Ankalli, Dark Rally, Martin Mission, TowerFlag, Wild Wild Space and Sammy.

PROMPERÚ reported that participation in the GDC represents an opportunity to demonstrate national talent and creativity, as well as to position the Peruvian presence in this sector internationally. On the other hand, it is a sign of Peru’s commitment to promote the development of its industry and improve the competitiveness of the offer.
