Family and children’s activities, workshops, handcrafted food and drinks will be on offer at this year’s Wild Garlic Festival in Orfű.
The 18th edition of the wild garlic event, which grows in abundance in Mecsek, will take place on Saturday and Sunday. As the organizers informed, this year the traditional festival will be held in six picturesque locations between the peaks of the Mecsek mountains near Pécs with 50 programs. Several thousand visitors are expected every day.
Wild garlic that grows wild in the Mecsek forests as a herald of spring with its characteristic garlic smell, also known as a blood and kidney cleanser, has become an important gastronomic ingredient in Baranya and beyond in recent decades. Many associate the herb, which can be gathered from March to May, with healthy eating and closeness to nature.
