The specialist specified that the State of Nursing in Mexico 2018 report from the General Directorate of Health Quality and Education (DGCES) indicates that in the country in that year there were an average of 3.55 nurses for every thousand inhabitants.

He stressed that the infirmary continues to be predominantly occupied by women; however, in recent years the inclusion of men has been increasing. INPer has a staff of 519 of these professionalsof which 28 are men with academic degrees of bachelor’s, postgraduate, master’s and doctorate, although there are also technical level.

Postgraduate studies for nursing staff

Alejandra Antonio highlighted that INPer imparts courses in Maternal and Child Nursing, Neurological Nursing, Oncological Nursing and Adult Nursing in Critical Condition, among others.

The deputy director of Nursing explained that the specialty has made great advances that are expressed in the different educational levels, with an impact on greater skills and better professional status, which expands the areas of opportunity and improves care.

Thus, health professionals can perform independently in consultancies, health education and in everything related to Advanced Practice Nursing (EPA).

The specialist stressed the importance of the capacity of health personnel, their adequate distribution and professional preparation. The Triple Impact Nursing report, produced by the UK Parliament’s Inter-Parliamentary Group on Global Health, notes that professionalisation improves health, gender equality and economies.

He stressed that the INPer has an accreditation opinion on capacity, quality and safety for medical care of highly specialized services, related to the management of problems in maternal, perinatal and neonatal health.

Accreditation is a mechanism that ensures quality and guarantees adequate conditions in patient care and safety processes.
