Firing at a car traveling from Yali – youth seriously injured

A person has been admitted to the Jaffna hospital with serious injuries after the police opened fire on a car traveling from Jaffna to Mannar via Munga.

Selva Mahendran Kamalaruban (age-36) of Manipai, Navali was seriously injured.

It is reported that while traveling by car from Yali towards Mannar yesterday at around 9.30 pm, the shooting took place when the police stopped for a road check in Mungavil area.

The person who was the target of the shooting had traveled to Murungan in Mannar.

He was later admitted to Murungan Hospital and from there he was taken to Mannar District General Hospital and transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
