The toilet at Soundararajan Road, Manthivelpakkam, under Ward 126, Thenampettai Mandal, has become dilapidated and unusable.
In this case, a few months ago, the toilet was completely demolished. Currently, a new construction is underway at the same location. Construction work is going on at a brisk pace.
In this situation, more than 100 residents of that area have insisted to relocate the toilet. Also, they have requested to set up an ‘avin’ palakam or Anganwadi center instead of a toilet at that place.
Regarding this, some residents from the area said:
When there was an old toilet, the place was frequented by anti-socials. Also, various anti-social activities took place there. Now, it is feared that anti-social activities will take place again in the area under construction.
Therefore, we urge you to relocate the toilet that is currently under construction. Adequate toilet facilities are available in the residences of people in this area. Placing toilets near underserved residential areas can be very beneficial.
We have made several requests to the Corporation officials regarding this. But, till now there is no result. We have also appealed to the High Court regarding this. Recently, the High Court has also directed the municipal authorities to consider the matter.
Thus, in this matter, the concerned authorities should listen to the request of the residents and take appropriate action.
