by time news

Previously, other plenary sessions of an extraordinary nature have been held outside the institutional headquarters: on the occasion of the bicentennial of the Constitution of Cádiz, held in 2012 in the Andalusian city, and in homage to Miguel de Cervantes, in the La Mancha town of Argamasilla de Alba in 2015, coinciding with the fourth centenary of the publication of the second part of the Quixote.

The Plenary of the RAE is made up of all the tenured academics that make up the institution. It is up to him to resolve all linguistic or literary, governmental, economic and any other order issues. It holds its weekly sessions on Thursday afternoons at the RAE’s institutional headquarters in Madrid, under the chairmanship of the director.

In the plenary session in Zaragoza on May 4, two philologists linked to the Aragonese town will be remembered, on the occasion of the centenary of their birth: the academics Fernando Lázaro Carreter (Zaragoza, April 13, 1923) and Manuel Alvar (Benicarló , Castellón, July 8, 1923), who were directors of the Academy between 1991 and 1998 and between 1988 and 1991, respectively.
