Players Championship 9A remarkable incident at the Players Championship 9 darts tournament. The Englishman Rob Cross, world champion in 2018, gave up with a big deficit (1-5) against the Belgian Mario Vandenbogaerde. The reason for stopping was a remarkable one.

Landman surprises with final spot

Chris Landman surprisingly threw himself into the final of PC9. The Dutchman is 114th in the world ranking, but has recorded great victories over the number six in the world Luke Humphries (6-4), the Belgian Mike De Decker (6-1), the German Martin Schindler (6-5) and the Northern Irishman Brendan Dolan (7-5). In the final, however, he only averaged 83.76, which meant he had no chance against the Polish Krzysztof Ratajski (1-8).


Raymond van Barneveld lost in the second round. Barney only took one leg against Englishman Graham Hall (1-6). Danny Noppert did reach the third round, but that was the end station for The Freeze. The number seven in the world was no match for the Irish Keane Barry in the last 32: 3-6.

Dirk van Duijvenbode impressively qualified for the eighth finals. Aubergenius, the number eleven in the world, did not lose a leg in the third round against the Englishman Josh Payne: 6-0. Van Duijvenbode lost in the eighth finals after a decisive leg against two-time world champion Gary Anderson: 5-6.

Michael van Gerwen takes a rest and was missing from Players Championship 9.
