In a message posted on its Twitter account, the Foreign Ministry recalled that this April 10 marks the 140th anniversary of the decree creating this institution, sponsored by the Government of Antonio Guzmán Blanco.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that this academy “has the purpose of ensuring the maintenance of the integrity and correctness of Spanish speech and the quality and effectiveness of its teaching”, a mandate for which the South American country works in all educational centers primary school and high school.
This institution, made up of 29 individuals, 10 honorary members, up to 50 corresponding nationals and the same number of foreigners, is a “governing body of the country’s linguistic and literary activity.”
According to its website, it sponsors research and studies that describe the uses of the Venezuelan language and promotes literary creation and its study in all its manifestations.
In addition, “among its main tasks should be highlighted the advice and joint work in the different linguistic projects of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and the Association of Spanish Language Academies (ASALE)”.
