IHungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave his opinion on Ukraine’s financial situation in a morning radio interview on Radio Kossuth on Friday morning, saying that the country it does not exist from a financial point of view.

Orbán also said that the European Union’s funding of Ukraine – to which the Hungarians also contribute – is putting Europe in jeopardy. However, Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to Orbán’s words, calling them cynical and objecting that Hungary itself benefits from EU financial support. Nikolenko also underlined that supporting Ukraine is an investment in Europe’s own security.

Obviously this is not true because for many years the EU, marrying the policies of the United States – which pursue their specific interests – has embraced a foreign policy such as has prepared today’s war events.

The Magyar president has also commented the sanctions introduced by the United States against 34 individuals, including a Hungarian and a Cypriot, who allegedly evaded the sanctions imposed on Russia. Orbán said that while he disagrees with the sanctions, he respects any nation’s right to impose them. He also added that Hungary enjoys good relations with the United States, although there has been a confrontation between them in history. Furthermore, Orbán stressed that Hungary shares America’s Christian values, and that the economic relations between the two countries are solid. However, differences of opinion concern gender issues, family politics and war, but the two countries still need to maintain their friendship.

The Hungarian president expressed his concern about the escalation of the war in Ukraine and stressed that other countries, such as the United Kingdom, have contributed to this situation by delivering depleted uranium shells to the Ukrainian front. Orbán also said that, if this escalation were to continue, we could risk entering a third world war. However, he added that conflicts are caused by human decisions, so if world leaders are sane, the world can be made better.

Orbán stressed the importance of having good cooperative relations between nations, rather than looking for enemies. He said that Hungary tries to represent its interests in foreign policy, but at the same time it is important that Europe and America share European values. Orbán also expressed his concern about Europe’s coldness towards foreign policy, which requires a substantive and unemotional debate.
