“You have every right to appeal to higher authorities,” he added.

The president of the Judiciary, Javier Arévalo, affirmed today that former minister Daniel Urresti was subjected to due process, but that he has the right to appeal to higher courts the 12-year prison sentence handed down against him.

After participating in the inauguration ceremony of the National Plan «Serving my Community» in the district of San Martín de Porres, indicated that Urresti Elera together with his legal defense have every right to challengeand not only him, but «any Peruvian who has received a sentence«.

«Daniel Urresti was subjected to due process, he has every right to resort to higher instances and if that is the case, the Supreme Court will say what it has to decide, I cannot tell you that there was some irregularity, this remains in the strict sphere of the judges will resolve what is challenged“, he stated.

In this sense, he explained that in his capacity as head of the Judiciary he cannot speak of irregularities in said judicial process, “but that if there were any procedural defect, that will be seen by the room that reviews the sentence.”
