The “Minga for a Childhood with a Future” began its first phase with the purpose of joining efforts and improving the provision of priority services for children in health, comprehensive child development and early registration of the newborn, as part of the objective of the national government of reduce and prevent Childhood Chronic Malnutrition.
The Technical Secretariat of Ecuador Grows Without Child Malnutrition leads the initiative, and has the participation of the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion, and the General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Identification.
During the “Minga for a Childhood with a Future”, health personnel carry out preventive controls for children under 2 years of age, take and record anthropometric measurements, and provide nutritional counseling to families. Preventive controls are also carried out for pregnant women, and in the event of any alert for both pregnant women and children, immediate comprehensive care is managed.
The first stage of this initiative is being developed in 28 cantons of the northern and central mountains of the country, in the provinces of Imbabura, Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Bolívar. So far, they have been held in the cantons of Baños, Cotacachi, Rumiñahui, Guaranda, Chimbo, Otavalo, Cayambe and San Pedro de Pelileo, and on Sunday, April 16, they will be held in Pujilí and Sigchos. They are scheduled to take place in the cantons: Pillaro, Puerto Quito, San Miguel de los Bankos, Antonio Ante, Urcuqui, Ambato, Saquisili, Pangua, Chillanes, Salcedo, Cevallos, Pedro Vincent Maldonado, Pedro Moncayo, Patate, San Miguel, Mocha , Tisale and Quartz.
The initiative is a great opportunity to bring the services of the Ministry of Health closer to the most vulnerable population, ensuring access to quality services for the proper development of children in Ecuador.
