A residence for students, with 120 beds, for the Parish Council of Benfica, in what is the first public tender within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) launched under a design-build regime, will be built in concrete modules . The modular construction system chosen by Edivisa, the construction company of the Visabeira group, is the one developed by the national construction company DDN and the Scottish company Global Engineering (GE), with the support of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). In addition to the Amadora residence with this constructive solution, there are five other projects by Edivisa and another six by DDN-GE. In all, the investment associated with these 12 projects is around €82.3 million, not including the cost of land.

This at a time when the first project built with the Constructive System in Self-Supporting Reinforced Concrete Blocks (SIMBA) has just been delivered — which looks like a kind of “lego for adults”, as it is composed of 80% finished modules, transported to the construction site and fitted there to give shape to the building. It is a residence for the Social Services of the PSP with 52 apartments and built in less than a year. Compared to traditional construction, SIMBA saves 30% in terms of labor, savings in terms that can reach 50% and a cost of around €900 per square meter — below the €1,100 per square meter of the construction at controlled costs, explains Carlos Oliveira. Substantially lower values than the €2500-€3000 practiced in so-called middle-class construction.
