The spring holidays continue, and in the campsites, the tourists begin to settle down, they still have to find a place to pitch the tent. Nearly half of the pitches are dedicated to rental accommodation. A petition has just been launched in the Var to save traditional camping.
Relaxation and nature. A couple of Belgian campers have set up their caravan in Taradeau in the Var, but according to experienced campers, finding a pitch is becoming more and more difficult. Here, half of the pitches are reserved for tents, caravans or motorhomes, in other words for nomadic holidaymakers and traditional campers. The managers have signed the petition “Save the real campsite”, to defend a know-how and a certain type of holiday.

“I have motorhomes who come often, and who are very disappointed with campsites, who no longer want to camp because of this, because they are not sure of having a place”says Anne Guillemin, campsite manager in the Var. “We should force campsites to have pitches”, she adds. A desire not really shared by the entire profession. In the Var, many campsites only offer rental accommodation. The Federation of outdoor hotels defends a need to move upmarket. The problem is that today, almost half of the pitches in France are now dedicated to rental. With nearly 8,000 signatures, the petition demands a minimum number of bare pitches in all campsites.
