CUISINE – The President of the Republic speaks this Monday, April 17, at 8 p.m. On the initiative of ATTAC (the Association for the taxation of financial transactions and for citizen action), a call to produce “pan concerts everywhere in France in front of town halls and in the streets” was launched.

Relayed by various unions, associations, personalities and citizens, this form of popular protest as noisy as good-natured seems to make the executive nervous, at the sight of the success of the call met on social networks.

Quickly, several prefectures (Bouche du Rhône, Côte d’Or) communicated in return on the absence of declaration of these possible gatherings.

They warn in particular of the risk of “recurrent disturbances to public order and violence committed against the police on the sidelines of the demonstrations against the pension reform”. A particularly serious risk “at the time of the televised address of the President of the Republic”.

A lèse-majesté uproar which would cost 135 euros in fines for the recalcitrant, the price of honest cookware from household retailers.

After all, this pension reform, enacted on Friday April 14, some two hours after the validation of the Constitutional Council, is at the heart of the grub that has been stirring up political and social life for several weeks in France.

On March 16, the use of 49.3 by the government – in a spoiling way – in order to have the bill accepted by the National Assembly by forced march, gave indigestion to a large part of public opinion.

Not considering itself listened to despite a dozen days of demonstrations in the street, it seems particularly receptive to the slogan of ATTAC: “Macron does not listen to us? Monday at 8 p.m., we won’t listen to it!”.

After having a tooth against the French flags and the yellow balloons on the public highway, the political power therefore in no way underestimates the saucepans, this utensil available in all the kitchens of France, very playful, which can be hit with a stainless steel spoon or a whisk for a more stylish effect (the wood does however prevent damaging the pans).

In recent years, from Argentina to Colombia via Chile, but also in Quebec, Algeria and Lebanon, many protests have thus developed through the organization of “casserolades”, of which Latin America is specialist (applications have even been developed for smartphones).

France is not left out. From 1830, saucepans were used against Adolphe Thiers, accused by part of the population of having betrayed the ideals of the Revolution.

Modernity obliges, this noisy protest is today accompanied by several calls for blackouts:

Fortunately, un service de fact-checking immediately hurried, in front of these “blooming messages” on social networks to minimize the possible impacts of such mobilization.

For his part, the Head of State declared to those around him that he wanted to appease the French,“to restore overall coherence to its action” and give “a Cape”. A recipe that they seem to have gotten a little tired of.

According an Elabe survey90% of French people believe that Emmanuel Macron’s speech will not ease tensions.
