Mountain hotel below, transmission tower above and extraterrestrial beauty everywhere: The house on the Jeschken in the Czech Republic has not only fascinated writers for 50 years

Eactually it should go to the “Golden Lion”. The world-famous German children’s book author, who now traveled with his family from Stephanskirchen near Rosenheim via Prague to his old North Bohemian homeland, still had fond memories from before the war of this traditional hotel in Reichenberg, where the big balls of his dance school days were held.

But the house, now called “Zlatý Lev”, was completely booked. So Otfried Preussler and his family checked into another hotel, which was still brand new in September 1973 and even had its official opening ahead of it. He felt there “like being a guest in a spaceship”, the then fifty-year-old Preussler noted, the building on top of the Jeschken mountain resembled “an oversized inverted funnel with an unusually long tube”, but was “a modern one and convincing in its own way Solution” for the task of building a hotel at this point.
