Sanxenxo hurries the last hours before the second visit of Juan Carlos I since his departure to Abu Dhabi in August 2020, and that will take place this Wednesday after a stopover in London. Contrary to what was planned at the time, it seems that he will not meet with Charles III, to whose coronation he has not been invited either. After his arrival probably at Vigohis reference airport on previous occasions, the emeritus monarch will travel to Sanxenxo, where he is expected to stay at his friend’s house Pedro Campos.
In the marina, the lower part of the breakwater has been fenced off since Monday to accommodate the crews that this weekend will compete in the Spanish Cup in the six-meter-long sailboat category, the regatta in which the Rascalthe ship he will captain if he goes to sea, is the favorite.

At the point of the jetty, that boat, the Bribón, already in the water after being set up in the slipway, it is discreetly docked next to a motorboat and another sailboat. It is barely noticeable between the number of masts and the much larger boats docked at the jetties.
The neighbors who cross paths on the shoulder of the port exchange views about the visit of the emeritus king. Many assume it naturally. In the cafeterias, hardly anyone raises their head to listen to the live entries of the displaced journalists. All residents and visitors, both defenders and detractors of Juan Carlos I, take it for granted that he will come and for many it serves to further promote their town.
Without much fuss, the Sanxenxinos continue their daily rhythm. Everything seems to be the same as always and, at the same time, it is not. In the port, and also in the town, there is expectation about what this visit will be like. For now, only the greater number of television cameras recording shots in the dock betrays, in the eyes of visitors, that something unusual is happening or will happen soon.
The silence that is kept around the details of the visit is still there. Everything seems to indicate that this time the scenes of May of last year will not be repeated, with a staging of the stay of the emeritus monarch that was not liked either in La Zarzuela or in La Moncloa. On this occasion they have not spoken. Private visit is the most that has been achieved to get the Government in public statements.

At the Náutico de Sanxenxo the preparations are piling up. On the outside there is an image of tranquility, on the inside the details are outlined because the bulk of the activity, the regatta, has already been planned for weeks. One of the managers of the Náutico, Carlos Agra, explains: «The regatta is on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23, with a participation between six and eight boats and we hope that the meteorologywhich is not clear, behaves well to be able to celebrate the four scheduled sleeves ».
Agra describes how the test will be like this: «This type of boat sails windward leeward. Two buoys are placed in the direction of the wind, at a distance of one or two miles depending on the intensity of the wind, and it is a closed buoy route, it is not like a type of cruise ship that is coastal and navigates the estuary”. He points out that the regattas in the six meter category contemplate that “you go to an area of the estuary, two buoys are set up and the boats go up and down, which is called barlo-sota”.
At the Náutico de Sanxenxo they are aware of the weather reports, because the wind is essential for this competition. For now, Agra comments that as the days go by “it will be more defined” what the navigation conditions will be like, but he pointed out that, for now, “wind is expected for both Saturday and Sunday, with a little rain on Saturday. If it clears up and we have sun, all the better.
Everyone expects the emeritus king to get on the Bribón, as he did in 2022. Agra expressed his confidence that Juan Carlos I will get on the Bribón. «I imagine that if he comes it will be to sail, right?
