Russian Foreign Minister Says He Wants an End to the War

Visiting Brazil, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia wants to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. According to CNN, Lavrov also thanked his Brazilian colleagues for the “excellent understanding” of the situation in Ukraine, adding that Russia is grateful for Brazil’s “desire to contribute” to finding solutions. Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has called for the creation of a group of nations to mediate talks between Russia and Ukraine. Vieira also criticized Russian sanctions, saying they hurt the global economy, especially in underdeveloped economies, many of which have yet to fully recover from the pandemic. Yesterday the White House slammed President Lula for saying the US was encouraging war in Ukraine.
