Hotels of a high standard and in a good location are most often chosen by tourists who want to spend their May weekend in the Tatra Mountains. Mid-range facilities do not have many bookings yet. Many tourists postpone the decision to leave until the last minute and make it dependent on the weather forecast for the May weekend, Karol Wagner from the Tatra Chamber of Commerce told PAP.
Hoteliers notice that the booking window has shortened to a week, and some book rooms out of the way.
“The number of inquiries about booking for the May weekend is large, but not all inquiries end with a booking and advance payment. Some tourists are waiting for weather forecasts. We are aware that the booking window is shortened and that the weather is of key importance, which is why hoteliers wait with reservations even until the last minute,” said Wagner.
This year the layout of the calendar is conducive to trips, because May 1 falls on a Monday, so the May long weekend can last up to nine days.
According to the reports of hoteliers so far, most tourists decide on short, two- or three-day trips, so the May weekend can even be divided into three stays.
“Some decide to book from Friday to Sunday, others will rest from Monday to Wednesday, and from Wednesday to the following Sunday we expect another wave of tourists,” notes Wagner.
A double room in Zakopane for the May weekend can be rented from PLN 200, and prices in luxury hotels with additional attractions end at PLN 3,800. Rooms at the proverbial farmhouse can be rented from PLN 80 per person. (PAP)
