The Ministry of Education is beginning to set up “Educational Quality Development Centers” throughout the country. I found out from a tweet from the Minister and tried to find more information. Unfortunately, nothing can be achieved on the Mppe website, apart from the tweets already mentioned. In fact, the last press release that appears there is from May of last year. It is understandable that sanctions and other problems limit the resources of the State.

And hinder, for example, the costly recovery of oil rigs. But keeping a web page up to date and with enough information is not that expensive. It could and should be done: in a democracy the government must report on plans and achievements.

It would be convenient for the Ministry to form a team of well-prepared people to take care of enriching its web page. Explanations and figures are required, as well as support for teaching work. Of course, this is how management is brought to light and subjected to public scrutiny: it is not comfortable.

In regional newspapers and on the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology I found some information about the centers. Apparently, work is done in two vertices: the organizational and the pedagogical. On the one hand, a more decentralized organizational structure is being sought, which allows better attention to be offered to personnel and greater proximity to the communities. This is feasible and positive.

The pedagogical appears in a more vague way: “the pedagogy of love and respect”, “productive projects”, “the systematization of experiences”, “the permanent training of teachers, parents and spokespersons”… There is also talk of transformations in “the curricular field”.

The installation of these centers in all the municipalities of the country is announced, “through the formation of movements of promoters with thousands of spokespersons.” This looks too bulky and ineffective. Perhaps it can work for mobilization and social control, but not for improving educational quality. The simplification of procedures is opportune, but the times are not propitious for curricular changes. What would be appropriate is that the Mppe offered concrete guidelines for better teaching in the different areas and for a classroom of participation and mutual aid. Along with resources such as more computer centers.
