The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts, Mr. Mohamed Hamid and the Chairman and CEO of the Bravia group, Mr. Prakash Lalchandani, signed on Friday April 14, 2023, a public-private partnership agreement between the State of Niger and the said group in relation to the renovation and extension project of the Hôtel Gawèye in Niamey. At a cost of nearly 25 billion FCFA, this agreement was established thanks to the facilitation of the Nigerien Agency for the Promotion, Private Investments and Strategic Projects (ANPIPS). Through this agreement, the government of Niger is convinced that these development works will promote hotel activity in Niger and increase the level of standing of this hotel.

Estimated at just under 25 billion FCFA, this project to extend and renovate the Hôtel Gawèye will create 250 jobs. The renovation and extension works will last two (2) years and the duration of the contract is 28 years, with an operating royalty payment of 300 million FCFA/year. The project provides for a large reception area and a waiting hall, 200 rooms and suites, a restaurant bar with a capacity of 150 people, a pizzeria, two equipped multipurpose rooms with a capacity of 200 people each and a large swimming pool. .

After having affixed his signature to the document of this agreement, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts, Mr. Mohamed Hamid recalled that the Hotel Gawèye file had been a concern of the Nigerien authorities for several years. One of the jewels that was the national pride for decades now needs an update to meet the demands of the moment. “This renovation project will take into account the social plan in relation to the payment of employees estimated at nearly 1.4 billion FCFA”, reassures the Minister in charge of Tourism. Expressing his satisfaction for the outcome of this agreement, the Minister in charge of Tourism underlined the strategic position occupied by this hotel. “This complex is located in the heart of Niamey on the banks of the Niger River. The work will affect the surroundings of the river, in particular the Kombo cornice, part of the Palais des Congrès. There are plans for a large terrace that will overflow to the river, a restaurant, an annex that will serve as a gym, several meeting and conference rooms,” he explained.

According to the Minister in charge of Tourism, this jewel will compete with new hotels recently built. “These actions fall within the framework of this desire of our highest authorities through the creation of the National Agency for the Economy of Conferences (ANEC) to make Niger a center for international meetings which meets the growing need for accommodation and restoration. The construction or renovation of hotels will contribute to the promotion of the Niger destination which is full of enormous potential for investors. The update of the Gawèye hotel is part of the solutions to this accommodation problem,” he said. In addition, Minister Mohamed Hamid said he was happy to see that foreign investors believe in this project of a better Niger by making large investments such as the example of the Bravia Group, while inviting other national or international investors. , to do the same.

As for the CEO of the Bravia group, Mr. Prakash Lalchandani, he assured that the content of this agreement will be scrupulously respected at 100%, especially the social plan presented by the staff of this hotel. Mr. Prakash Lalchandani expressed his determination to change the image of Hotel Gawèye by giving it another more beautiful image shortly.
