It will be signed by Milo Manara, master of contemporary classic comics, the comic adaptation of “The Name of the Rose”, Umberto Eco’s masterpiece and world best seller. It was published by Oblomov Edizioni, a brand that is part of the Nave di Teseo group led by Elisabetta Sgarbi: the first volume will be released on May 2 (72 pages, 20 euros), while the second and last is expected for next autumn. This is an editorial event that is being published all over the world: there are already at least a dozen markets that will see the local edition of Eco’s novel interpreted by Manara.

It is a unique book that puts on paper three distinct graphic styles that intersect in pursuit of visual perfection. Each narrates an aspect of Eco’s book: the wonderful and surreal sculptures, reliefs of the portals and marginalia that accompany the illuminated books in the library; Adso’s Bildungsroman, with the discovery of sensuality and the Woman; the historical story of the Dolciniani, whose themes of poverty of the least, non-homogenization, persecuted diversity and dissent are crucial even today.

Manara’s “The Name of the Rose” therefore finds space in the literary “matryoshka” operation of Eco’s book, which is also a book about books that contain other books and open up to other worlds.
