He had announced it, it remained to be seen when. Ten and a half years after taking up the post of general secretary of the CFDT, Laurent Berger will leave his place to Marylise Léon, his number two, on June 21. The succession at the head of the first French union, which follows shortly that of Sophie Binet at the CGT and will be concomitant with that of Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux at the Medef, was formalized this Wednesday at a meeting of the national officewhose agenda has been modified for the occasion.

“I said, during our congress in June 2022, in Lyon, that I would leave during my mandate”, recalled the person concerned in an interview with “Le Monde”, renewing a practice inaugurated by his predecessor, Francois Chereque. This decision, “maturely considered, stopped at the end of 2021, after discussion with my colleagues on the executive board” is neither “a whim nor a choice dictated by current events”.
