Matthieu Lartot, rugby commentator on France Télévisions and presenter of Stade 2announced on Tuesday to “get away from the air” to “fight cancer a second time”, 26 years after suffering from a tumor in his knee.

“Since nowadays everything is known… as much as it is me who announces it to you”, writes the 43-year-old journalist on Instagram to his more than 22,000 subscribers.

“Today I am forced to move away from the antenna to go back to the ring […] 26 years later, history unfortunately stutters, ”explains the former AS Mantes (Yvelines) scrum half, who discovered a tumor in his knee when injured during a match at 16 and has since worn a prosthesis between the femur and the tibia.

A single objective in 2023: “victory”

“There was a 1 to 5% chance of it happening and it happened,” adds Mr. Rugby from France Télévisions. “It will shake very hard but I am ready and very well surrounded […] And like the blues, my only objective in 2023 is victory, ”assures Matthieu Lartot, in reference to the next Rugby World Cup organized in France from September 8 to October 28.

Main commentator of the Six Nations tournament since 2009 on France Télé, Matthieu Lartot also comments on Roland-Garros and hosts the Sunday magazine Stade 2 since 2017.

The TF1 group, holder of the broadcasting rights for the 2023 World Cup, sold 28 matches to the France Télévisions and M6 groups, reserving the most beautiful posters. TF1 will also broadcast the preparation matches of the XV of France this summer and its autumn tours 2024 and 2025, playing on the ground usually occupied by France Télé.
