The government of North Korea has imposed a bizarre ban on the people of that country. On the tenth anniversary of President Kim Jong Un’s father Kim Jong Il’s birthday, the country’s people have been banned from laughing for 11 days. It is noteworthy that Kim Jong Il passed away on December 17, 2011.
The government has banned North Koreans from drinking alcohol, shopping for groceries, shopping and engaging in recreational activities. A resident of the country’s border town of Sinuiju was quoted as saying by Radio Free Asia.
Violators of the government’s ban will be prosecuted. It is also said that arrests have been made in the past for violating such restrictions. No one even knows what the status of those arrested is.
The North Korean government has organized various events to mark Kim Jong Il’s Memorial Day.
