A man was arrested this Wednesday (19) at a zoo in Auckland, New Zealand, after having invaded the African fauna area and plunged into a moat, in front of rhinos and antelopes, the establishment said.
Photos of the incident posted on social media show the man, in a shirt, calmly floating on his back and then washing his face and hair.
The rhinos and antelopes “were startled by the invader, which is understandable,” a spokesman for the Auckland Zoo said.
The man remained in the water for several minutes before he obeyed zoo guards’ orders and returned to the visitors’ area. Then he was handed over to the police.
“We hope the man involved gets the help and support he clearly needs,” zoo director Kevin Buley said.
