Popularly known as Chaiwale Guru in Cuttack, Odisha, Padma Shri D Prakash Rao took it upon himself in the year 2000 to educate hundreds of needy children. Because of him, the light of education had reached many homes in the area and it was because of his efforts for the society that he was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2019.
Even though Prakash Rao himself was not even 10th pass, but he understood the importance of education very well. This is the reason that he not only gave good education to his two daughters, but also connected many more children with education and school.
At that time, he had built a school in a single room at his home and used to give milk and biscuits to the children at his own expense. Gradually the number of children increased and the helping hands also started increasing. With time his organization ‘Asha o Ashwasana’ (Asha o Ashwasana) was started, which became a second home for many children.
But after the death of D Prakash Rao in 2021, everyone started feeling that the school started by him would now be closed. At that time his elder daughter was married and younger daughter Bhanupriya used to work abroad.

That last wish of father changed Bhanupriya’s thinking. Instead of going back abroad, he stayed in Cuttack and started working for the school. This time, by conducting a survey himself, he enrolled more children in the school than ever before.
