Luis Portelles, a young Cuban born in the eastern province of Holguín and raised in Montreal, Canada, will be the representative of that North American nation in one of the most important international male beauty pageants: Mister Supranational 2023.

And it is that next July, the province of Małopolskie, Poland, will witness this event that brings together candidates from at least 40 countries.

After three years of absence in this type of competition, Canada returns to the contest with the young national, who has expressed that he feels honored to represent the country that has given him so much.

Through his Instagram profile, Portelles shared images with which he will debut in the contest and expressed his enthusiasm and determination to prepare as much as possible and compete for the prestigious title.

“I am excited to bring the best of me to the competition. I am determined to work hard and prepare myself to the maximum, to be able to put my best foot forward and compete for the prestigious title of Mister Supranational”, reads the publication, which accumulates thousands of positive reactions.

Portelles, in addition to participating in the tournament, seeks to show the world the cultural diversity, beauty and values of Canada. Although he is currently immersed in the world of beauty pageants, the Cuban-Canadian is also a content creator and analyst for international pageants. He recently graduated from the Communications program at the University of Montreal.

The Mister Supranational is not the first experience of Luis Portelles in this field, since he has also helped as a judge in events such as Miss Philippines Earth 2023. Last year, he coincided with Sheyla Ravelo, the representative of Cuba in Miss Earth 2022, and although he did not win, he was proud of his compatriot.

Despite representing Canada this time around, he really can’t choose between his native Cuba and the country that raised him, so he proudly carries both flags. Last February, another Cuban, Juan Carlos Ariosa, was crowned the winner of Mister Global 2022, while Luis Daniel Gálvez obtained the title in the previous edition of Mister Supranational 2022.

The Cuban presence in beauty pageants has grown in recent years, as more and more men and women join the challenge of making the Greater Antilles proud in the international arena.
