The Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC) arrested a man on April 21 who allegedly was engaged in fraud by offering agricultural seeds through social networks in the state of Anzoátegui.

The Brigade against Fraud and Scam of the Municipal Delegation of El Tigre was in charge of carrying out the arrest of Marvin Saivin Silva, 31 years old, in the Simón Rodríguez municipality.

Saivin offered through Instagram agricultural seeds of different species, both national and international. Once the payment by bank transfer was completed, she cut off communication with her victims without making the delivery, according to the director of the CICPC, Douglas Rico, on Instagram.

It also indicated that during the police operation, police officers seized, as part of the evidence, a Samsung cell phone, model J8.

Rico reported that both the 7th Prosecutor of Anzoátegui and the Second Control Court of the Public Ministry are aware of this case.

Another recent scam on social networks

Cases of fraud on social networks such as Instagram or Facebook have been recurrent, according to what was reviewed by the CICPC social networks. One recent scam involves a man who allegedly deceived his customers by offering used vehicles linked to crimes.

The Municipal Delegation of the CICPC in San Carlos, Cojedes state, detained a man identified as Luiner Antonio Salazar Monsalve, 26 years old. It offered used motorcycles on Facebook’s Marketplace site, Douglas Rico reported on Instagram on April 15.

“During his capture, officials recovered a Bera motorcycle, license plate AC2P52J. When verified in the Police Investigation and Information System (Siipol), she was requested for seizure for vehicle fraud, and another Keeway motorcycle, license plate AI3I36G, ”said Rico.

Steps to report cyber scams at the CICPC

In Venezuela there are several channels where people who are victims of scams can go. One of them is the office of the Computer Crime Division of the CICPC, located on Urdaneta Avenue in Caracas, to file a complaint.

In addition, they can make the complaint through the Instagram account of this department: @informmaticoscicpc or that of the director of the CICPC, Douglas Rico: @douglasricovzla.

Another way to file a complaint can be through WhatsApp at the number provided by the security body: +58 424 279 06 19.

In 2022, the head of the CICPC’s computer expertise division, Pascual González, warned of an increase of between 20 and 30% since 2020 in computer crimes in the country.

González pointed out in an interview with VTV that the situation has generated alarm in the population due to the recurrence of these illegal activities. According to CICPC statistics, most of the scammers’ victims are from the interior of Venezuela.
