The Emergency Operations Center (COE) of the Dominican Republic reported this Saturday that the number of provinces on alert for possible effects of a trough had increased to 15.

Through its account on the social network Twitter, the entity indicated that of the total number of provinces on alert, three are in yellow and 12 in green, reports the Telesur web portal.

The director of the COE, Juan Manuel Méndez, specified that the yellow alert is for the provinces of Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde and Monte Cristi.

“We maintain a green alert for Dajabón, Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Monte Plata, the National District, San Pedro de Macorís and Hato Mayor,” he declared.

In addition, he urged the population in the provinces with the alert not to neglect, refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that present large volumes of water, either in vehicles or on foot.

For its part, the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) foresees that the weather conditions will continue under the effects of the aforementioned trough.

“Moderate to heavy downpours with electrical storms and isolated gusts of wind are forecast, mainly towards the provinces: Santiago, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Monte Plata, El Gran Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor among others,” he said.
