A Greek cartoonist was banned from the major comics conference to be held in Technopolis, with the organization declaring that his works “are not in line with our principles”.

The cartoonist Konstantinos Pappas was excluded from the 17th Comicdom CON Athens, which will be held in Technopolis on May 12 and 14, with the news having caused a lot of discussion on social media, but also reactions from… all kinds of far-right, alt-right and even fascists.

Comicdom, one of the largest conferences on the subject of comics held in our country, with its official announcement a few days ago notes that “It has come to our attention that the works of a creator who participates in the self-publishing sector – Artists Alley of this year’s Comicdom CON Athens , are bearers of ideas that are not consistent with the principles of the organization and go beyond the context of the historical reporting of events, as he had hinted at from the sample of the work he sent, in order to be judged for his participation. Therefore, the organization revokes the said artist’s place in Artists Alley. We thank those who drew our attention to this particular issue.”

This particular artist has a collaboration with a well-known website that echoes the views of the alt right, while in many of his works he presents nightmarish figures of Greek history such as Georgios Grivas or Ioannis Metaxas.

After the announcement from Comicdom Athens, which was supported by a large number of messages and positions from the largest part of the space of cartoonists and cartoonists, there were reactions from the far-right, either through inflammatory messages on social media or articles with allegations of censorship and attack on freedom of speech.

The newspaper “Estia”, in fact, made the issue front page with the title “they can’t stand the Greek flag even in comics”.
