SEOUL: North Korea has banned the public from laughing for 10 days ahead of the 10th anniversary of former President Kim Jong Il’s.
Following the disappearance of Kim Il Sung, the founder of the eastern country of North Korea, his eldest son Kim Jong Il became President of the country in 1994. Kim Jong Il, who ruled for 17 years, died on December 17, 2011. His son Kim Jong Un is currently president.
On this occasion, the 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Il was observed. In turn, various restrictions have been imposed on the public for the next 10 days. Similarly, drinking and ‘shopping’ are prohibited.
Permission has also been denied to hold birthday celebrations and funerals. Violators will be severely punished during the 10 days of mourning.
Regarding this, a resident of a border village in North Korea said: In the past, people who drank alcohol during mourning days were arrested. We will never see them again, “he said.” People are not allowed to laugh.
