Unfolding of a section of track in Deba, Guipzcoa, to improve the transport of goods

With a length of more than six hundred meters, it belongs to the Bilbao-San Sebastián line.

Euskal Trenbide Sarea, has put out to tender the construction project for the doubling of a section of track in Deba, on the Bilbao San Sebastián line, to improve freight transport. Likewise, it will proceed to renew the track of a segment of about 750 meters in length of the same line, in this case to improve the service to travelers.

The engineering companies interested in participating in the contest will have a budget of 145,000 euros and a lead time of nine months for the drafting of the construction project. The doubling, with a length of more than 600 meters in the Itziar area, will allow the crossing of trains. ETS has undertaken this type of works in different points in recent years with the aim of improving the transport of goods.

Thanks to this doubling, freight trains will be able to move aside when a unit with passengers circulates. Thus, instead of freight trains running only at night, when there are no commercial services, they will also be able to do so during the day.

Longer time slot for maintenance

This type of action achieves a double objective. On the one hand, the fact that freight trains run during the day improves the quality of life of the inhabitants who reside in towns close to the railway line. On the other hand, as there are no night circulations, the maintenance teams have a longer time slot to carry out their tasks.

In this context, the Basque railway administrator will allocate 807,000 euros to track renewal work on a 750-metre-long section between the Deba and Arroa stations. The works, which will last five months, will consist of replacing the rail, the monobloc concrete sleepers and the fastenings.
