Bank employees strike for Rs 80,000 crore in 2-day strike Dynamics

Chennai: As many as 80 lakh crore check transactions worth Rs 80,000 crore were affected across the country due to a two-day strike by bank employees in protest of the privatization of public sector banks.
The central government announced in the budget the privatization of public sector banks. Accordingly, the Banks Amendment Bill, 2021, relating to the privatization of two public sector banks, is due to be tabled in the Lok Sabha soon.
Demonstrations took place in front of the Gaide Millat Memorial, near Anna Road, Chennai, condemning the central government. In this, more than 500 people participated. For the second day yesterday, banking services were severely affected.
11 lakh checks worth Rs 11,000 crore in Tamil Nadu due to two-day strike; Across the country, transactions worth Rs 80 lakh crore and 80 lakh checks were halted. On the first day, there was ample cash in ATMs. As most of the ATMs became empty, customers wandered around looking for ATMs.
