DIG/ The government announced, on April 20, 2023, in a press release, the publication of its first “EITI Gabon 2021 Report”, which is part of the process of implementing the international standard which aims to improve transparency in the management of revenues from the extractive industry in Gabon.

“The publication of the Gabon 2021 EITI Report on Thursday 20 April 2023 illustrates Gabon’s clear desire to remain within this prestigious international body”the government said.

The Gabon 2021 EITI Report, validated by the Multistakeholder Group, is the result, it is said, of a synergy of all the stakeholders and declarants of the extractive sector (public and private), while relying on the Secretariat Permanent technique and the expertise of an Independent Administrator.

This Report comprehensively covers all revenues, production and exports from the extractive sector during the year 2021. It also deals with the contribution of this sector to the economy, the completeness and reliability of the data. as well as recommendations.

“The implementation of the 2019 EITI Standard will strengthen good governance in our country by aligning revenues from the extractive sector and the mechanisms which, once valued, could be mobilized to contribute to the well-being of populations”underlined the government.

As a reminder, Gabon joined the EITI for the first time in 2003 and then suspended in 2013, for lack of transparency in the governance of the extractive industries.

Its return, approved by the International EITI Board of Directors in October 2021, now requires the country to put in place a number of ethical principles to promote inclusive economic growth and ensure sustainable development.
