Key statement on Sri Lanka as the Geneva Conference approaches

by time news

Seven United Nations special envoys have jointly stated in a statement that the current anti-terrorism law in Sri Lanka should be aligned with international law.

The report also expressed concern over the Sri Lankan government’s failure to take appropriate action on the anti-terrorism law.

The UN Special Rapporteurs have pointed to the need to amend the law on the proper definition of terrorism – detention orders and detention of spontaneous detainees.

It is noteworthy that this joint statement was made in the context of the forthcoming session of the UN Human Rights Council in February.
