May weekend without grilling? For many Poles, it is an inseparable connection, or even a habit, which will not be hindered by rising prices. How much will we spend on the barbecue this time? It turns out that some products will be cheaper than in the previous year. Check how much you have to pay for bread, sausage and other products welcome at the barbecue in 2023.

According to research conducted by UCE Research and the BLIX Group, Poles last year spent on preparing a barbecue:
- from PLN 50 – 7.8 percent surveyed
- from PLN 50 to PLN 100 – 36.6 percent subjects,
- from PLN 100 to PLN 150 – 30.8 percent subjects,
- from PLN 150 to PLN 200 – 14.5 percent subjects,
- from PLN 200 to PLN 250 – 5 percent subjects,
- from PLN 250 to PLN 300 – 2.4 percent subjects,
- over PLN 300 – 1.2 percent surveyed.
The above data indicate that grilling is a considerable expense, but also a habit that we do not intend to give up. The most common products in the grill basket include: pork neck or chicken breast (83.6%), sausage (82.5%), ketchup (73.6%), bread (65.5%), beer (62.1%) and mustard (54.5%).
Using the price comparison engine developed by the dlahandlu.pl portal, we created a price basket containing basic products bought for the grill. The price list generated there for stores in Warsaw is as follows:
- bread (1000 g) – PLN 4.36,
- beer (0.5 l, can) – PLN 3.99,
- ketchup (430 g) – PLN 6.26,
- mustard (185 g) – PLN 3.49,
- drink (1 l) – PLN 2.15,
- sausage (1000 g) – PLN 11.90,
- basket value – PLN 32.15.
The above prices apply to items purchased in the Lidl network, which, as it turns out, has the cheapest offer. In second place was Kaufland, where we will pay PLN 37.39 for the same products, and the podium is closed by Biedronka, where we have to pay PLN 40.90 for a basket prepared by us.
Interestingly, some of the products included in the above price basket are cheaper than a year ago. Before the May weekend, last year we paid more for bread (PLN 5.73), sausage (PLN 23.21) and a drink (PLN 2.99).
The sausage for PLN 11.90 included in this year’s list is the result of a promotion, but even in other supermarkets that do not have such discounts, we will pay about PLN 20-22 for this product, which is less than a year ago.
The basket shown above applies to basic products and a grill prepared for one person. However, it is worth checking how much we have to pay for organizing a party in a larger group.
In the picnic basket for a barbecue with family or friends, we included 4 loaves of bread, 12 beers, butter, ketchup, mustard, 3 kg of Podwawelska sausage, 3 kg of chicken, 4 bottles of juice and 4 bottles of water. In this ranking, we will pay the cheapest for a basket in Biedronka (PLN 184.13), Lidl is in second place (PLN 191.38), and the podium is closed by Auchan (PLN 195.84).
In the case of the store with the cheapest offer, we will pay for the listed products:
- 4 pieces of bread – PLN 17.44,
- beer 12 pcs. – PLN 35.88,
- butter 1 piece – PLN 5.76,
- ketchup 1 pc. – PLN 6.01,
- mustard 1 piece – PLN 3.49,
- juice 4 pcs. – PLN 15.96,
- water 4 pcs. – PLN 9.92,
- chicken 3 kg – PLN 23.97,
- Podwawelska sausage 3 kg – PLN 65.70.
Instead of Podwawelska sausage, you can also choose black pudding, which costs about PLN 15-17 per kilogram. Neck lovers must pay from PLN 21 to PLN 25 per kilogram this year.
