Helicopter crash; Varun Singh’s body cremated

Bhopal: A helicopter crash in the Nilgiris district on the 8th of this month killed 13 people, including Brigadier General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madulika Rawat and soldiers.

Of these, only Captain Varun Singh survived with 80 per cent burns and was treated at the Air Force Hospital in Bangalore.

He was reported to be in a critical condition after receiving intensive treatment. Varun Singh succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Following this, Varun Singh’s body was laid to rest at the Elaganga Air Force Base in Bangalore on Thursday morning. Many political party leaders, ministers and MLAs, including Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bomma, paid homage to his body there. Tributes were also paid on behalf of the Air Force.

His body was flown to Bhopal, the state capital of Madhya Pradesh, by a special flight at 10 am on Thursday. Varun Singh’s family also went with him. His body reached Bhopal at three o’clock that afternoon.

There, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan paid homage to Varun Singh’s body.

Later, the Chief Minister told reporters that Rs 1 crore would be provided to Varun Singh’s family and one member of the family would be given a government job. He said a statue of Varun Singh would be erected and a company named after him. Varun Singh’s body was buried with military honors.
