After a great presence on the militant cultural scene, the Palestinian writer Salma Al-Khadra Al-Jayousi passed away Who was born in 1926, after a career rich in literary giving in poetry, research and translation.

The late writer studied at the universities of Khartoum and Algeria, and has many books on poetry and translation. She contributed to many resistance activities, the latest of which was in Syria with Khaled Abu Khaled and Hamza Barqawi.

Among the works of the late al-Jayousi are modern Arabic poetry, literature of the Arabian Peninsula, modern Palestinian literature, modern Arab theater, Arab-Islamic civilization in Andalusia, modern Arabic story, the heritage of Muslim Spain, democracy and human rights in the Arab world by writer Muhammad Abed al-Jabri and others.

In the field of poetry, she translated into English a number of collections of poetry by Abi Al-Qasim Al-Shabi, Fadwa Touqan, Muhammad Al-Maghout, Nizar Qabbani, and others.

In translation into Arabic, she translated a number of books on English in the early sixties, including Louise Bogan’s book (Achievements of American Poetry in Half a Century), Ralph Barton Barry’s book (The Humanity of Man), Archibald MacLeish’s book (Poetry and Experience) and others.

Al-Jayousi won many awards such as the Cultural Personality of the Year Award for the 14th session of (Sheikh Zayed Book Award) to confirm the presence of the Palestinian intellectual in general and women in particular, in cultural forums (2020), the Palestinian American Women’s Union Medal for Outstanding National Service (1991), and the Jerusalem Medal for literary achievement.

On the authority of the writer Al-Jayousi, President of the Union of Arab Writers, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, stressed the need to pay attention to her cultural heritage, given her militant stances and extensive knowledge in the various fields of culture, and her commitment to the Palestinian cause as one of her cultural priorities, indicating that the late woman left the Arab library with a cultural asset worthy of pride.
