Non-performing loans granted by all credit institutions to companies and individuals stood at 3.55% in February, slightly below the rate of 3.56% registered in January, and significantly lower than the 4.31 % that was registered in February 2022, according to the provisional data published today by the Bank of Spain.
The volume of doubtful loans in February was 42,592 million euros, 305 million euros less than in January and 0.71% in relative terms. Compared to February 2022, the reduction is 18.38% and 9,592 million euros less.
The total volume of credit granted has also been reduced. In February, the bank registered 1,199 trillion euros in loans, 4,523 million euros less than in January, or what is the same, 0.37% less. Compared to February 2022, the volume of credit granted has decreased by 11,407 million euros, 0.94% less.
The figures include the methodological change in the classification of Financial Credit Institutions (EFC), which since January 2014 are no longer considered within the category of credit institutions.
Without including the change, delinquency would stand at 3.64% in February, since the credit balance was 1.168 trillion euros in that month, excluding the EFC credit.
The data broken down by type of entity reflect that the doubtful ratio of deposit institutions as a whole (banks, savings banks and cooperatives) closed February at 3.46%, below the 3.48% of the previous month and 4.23 % of a year earlier.
For its part, the NPL ratio of financial credit institutions stood at 6.04% in the second month of the year, higher than the 6.02% in January, but below the 6.88% of a year earlier. .
According to data from the Bank of Spain, the provisions of all credit institutions fell to 31,012 million euros in February, with a decrease of 0.09% compared to the previous month and 19.17% compared to February 2022.
