Having taken a sip of the electric game with the Electre crossover, Lotus is now preparing a zero-emission sedan. Believed to have been christened the Lotus Envya, the model has been spied on a few occasions doing its thing in the cold as well as on the track.

As the automaker’s plan is to keep prices in check, it is expected to be similar to the crossover. Additionally, its overall styling was inspired by Electre, with a familiar lighting signature at both ends. Recessed door handles are slowly becoming a trend in the modern automotive world, and Envya will have them too. It will also have digital side mirrors, sources reveal.

Specifications for Lotus Envya:

At this point, you’re probably hoping to find out more about the technology and perhaps the interior. But the fact is, we haven’t seen the cockpit yet. Still, as it will supposedly be very similar, if not identical, to the Electre, we can expect the same digital displays and infotainment system. It should launch with a capacity of four and five seats, and should feature different upholstery and finishes from the crossover to separate them. One thing worth noting is the Level 3 semi-autonomous steering system, which is said to be on deck.

In terms of power, it is possible that it will obtain the same dual engine configuration as the Electre. If that’s the case, then it will have 710 Nm of combined torque and 603 horsepower. Since the Lotus Envya will be lighter than the crossover, it will also be faster to 100 km/h, with the sprint currently taking 4.5 seconds. 600+ hp doesn’t sound all that appealing to you? Well, then you’re in luck, or so the rumors say, as Lotus’ quiet sedan also launches in a hotter R-spec with over 900bhp. This will allow it to blend in with the Tesla Model S Plaid and the upcoming 1,000hp variant of the Porsche Taycan.

It’s unknown when exactly it will debut, but chances are that when it does, it will look a lot like the one rendered by Kolesa’s peeps. The CGIs seem to be based on the latest spy photos, hence the realistic approach that ties it to Electre. We may not be fans of the overall design, as there are much more attractive battery-electric business class sedans. The Envya could turn out to be a better alternative for most of them, and it should be if it wants to lure some customers away from its well-established rivals. But would you consider buying one over a Taycan, Model S, e-tron GT, i5, EQE, and so on.
