Getting used to the new color code is not enough. It has already been four days since a new stage in the transformation of Twitter, imposed by Elon Musk, came into effect on the social network. And the least we can say is that confusion reigns more than ever.

Since the end of last week, the blue badge – initially obtained after verification of the identity of the user and making it possible to ensure the validity of the profile – is now accessible in exchange for the payment of a subscription. No need, therefore, to have any notoriety. And, conversely, an account holding millions of subscribers who do not wish to pay is, theoretically, no longer certified.

Only three people are officially exempt from the monthly payment of eight dollars, because the new owner of the social network fulfills it for them. They are actor William Shatner, basketball player LeBron James and writer Stephen King.

Money for a blue badge, the rule seemed simple. But since Sunday, other personalities, who claim not to have paid or given their telephone number – the other required condition – have recovered their certification. This is particularly the case of the American rapper Lil Nas X.

A similar mishap seems to have happened to singer Matt Pokora. This Sunday, he first welcomed the return of his blue tick, before being surprised by his new disappearance. The youtubeur Lena Situations, she still has her badge, although according to one of her tweets, she is one of the users who did not pay for it.

This forced certification is far from being to the taste of all users. Several insisted on letting it be known that they had not paid – so as not to appear to support Elon Musk’s action.

A golden badge for a fake Disney

The other imbroglio concerns golden badges. Because, even if the error has since been corrected, Twitter had granted this distinctive sign, normally intended for companies and NGOs in order to avoid identity theft, to a fake Disney Junior account, as pointed out by several media .

The user made a comment quite far from the standards of the big-eared firm. ” It’s not possible ! Someone fuck me! “, he reacted. Eventually, not only did the subscriber lose their certification, but the account was even deleted.

Difficult, however, to obtain an explanation from Elon Musk: the owner of the social network no longer responds to the press except with a rude emoji – this is how he reacted to Sky News.
