It’s hard to innovate when the concept is so simple. But BeReal, whose principle is to send a photo to friends when a notification occurs at any time of the day, is trying: the French social network has announced the launch of the “Bonus BeReal”, which consists of the possibility of send two additional photos a day. Only UK users will be able to enjoy it initially.
“Bonus BeReal is designed as a balance between our core value, which is authenticity, and the possibility for users to share certain special moments of their daily life that happen outside the two-minute window”, explains BeReal on a blog note published on Sunday, spotted by BFM TV on Monday.
To encourage users to be on time
Concretely, each user will benefit from two “BeReal Bonuses”, to be used whenever they want, if they have sent a first photo within two minutes of the first notification. If the user skips the first notification, he will only be entitled to one “BeReal Bonus”. The objective for the social network is simple, even if it is not written clearly: to encourage users to post a photo during the first notification and not to wait for the desired moment of the day.
Created in 2020 by two French people, BeReal has experienced enormous growth in recent months, mainly in the United States and Great Britain, to reach more than 20 million users. Claiming to be the “anti-Instagram” application, champion of authenticity on social networks, BeReal sends a notification on mobiles calling on users to photograph themselves within two minutes – with the front and back camera . Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat have since attempted to copy the app.
