An opening ceremony on the Seine: this is what the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee promises, which announced on Thursday April 25 the establishment of a collaboration with river companies to achieve this . These will make their Parisian and regional boats available to allow the athletes to parade on the capital’s river.

At present, 42 companies – and 116 of their boats – have announced that they will be at the service of the ceremony. Among them are the famous Vedettes du Pont-Neuf as well as the Bateaux-Mouches. Batorama, the first French boat tour company outside Paris, will also take part in the ceremony. However, 98% of the boats will be Parisian.

From the Pont d’Austerlitz to the Eiffel Tower

These boats will welcome Olympic delegations from the five continents and will sail on the Seine on July 16, 2024. They will sail six kilometers between the Pont d’Austerlitz, to the east of the capital, and the very chic Pont d’Iéna, which connects the Eiffel Tower at the Trocadero.

This course will take the athletes past many emblematic monuments of the capital, such as the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, the Pont des Arts, the Pont-Neuf, the Institut de France and the Ile de la Cité.

“A Billion Stares”

“On July 26, 2024, more than a billion eyes will be on Paris and the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Without the shipowners, this ambitious ceremony project on the Seine would not have been possible”greeted Tony Estanguet, president of the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The opening ceremony is an opportunity for the river industry to make available to Olympism its values of commitment, excellence and environmental sobriety”commented Didier Leandri, president of Entreprises fluviales de France.
