The Czech created a surprise by winning the prologue of the Tour de Romandie on Tuesday.
Josef Cerny (Soudal Quick-Step) created the surprise by winning the prologue of the Tour de Romandie at Bouveret, between Rhône and Léman, on Tuesday, covering the 6.82 km in 7 min 25 sec 88/100th.
Cerny, who is about to celebrate his 30th birthday, is 29/100th ahead of the reigning time trial world champion, the Norwegian Tobias Foss (Jumbo-Visma), who paid for a badly negotiated last corner, and 97/100th the French Rémi Cavagna (Soudal Quick-Step), exercise specialist who had offered the 5th stage of the Tour de Romandie in 2021.
The first wearer of the leader’s jersey, which has returned to yellow for this 76th edition after a year in green, has so far only had one prestigious victory, with the 19th stage of the Giro in 2020.
