DIG/ According to information reported by Africa Business+, the Gabonese subsidiary of Olam sold since December 2022 all of its shares in Société Autoroutiere du Gabon, i.e. 50%, to Meridiam, its French partner with whom it joined forces in 2019 to relaunch the redevelopment work.

This makes Meridiam the sole shareholder of SAG, given that through this transaction which has not yet been formalized, Arise is also withdrawing from the project.

As the source reports, Arise withdraws to focus on the management of the special economic zones in which it has invested in Africanotably those of Nkok in Gabon, Adetikope in Togo and Glo Djigbé.

Meridiam consequently asked the Gabonese Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) for insurance on its committed funds.

The French investor asked a guarantee of up to 67.5 million euros (a little less than 45 billion FCFA) against the risks of restriction of transfer, expropriation, breach of contract, war and civil unrest, for a period of up to up to 15 years old.

This guarantee should cover investments in equity, quasi-equity and loans from SAG’s shareholder for the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the Transgabonaise, MIGA argues.
