  • Hubbard’s Tub is ideal for patients with a lot of pain, who have no way of moving and gradually regain mobility.
  • Patients are admitted to the tub by means of a mechanical crane, where the propulsion of the water allows them to have greater muscle relaxation and perform the exercises indicated by their attending physician.
  • In the sessions, the patients are guided to perform the exercises properly and later the treating physician determines their evolution and if it is necessary to resume the treatment.

Thanks to the Tina de Hubbard from the “Siglo XXI” Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit (UMFR) of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Patients with fractures, muscle, nerve, tendon and bone injuries, as well as genetic syndromes that derive from bone or muscle injuries, manage to manage pain and regain mobility during their rehabilitation.

The graduate in Physical Therapy Gilda Mariana Camacho Aguilar, physiotherapist at the UMFR, pointed out that the therapies in the Tina de Hubbard They are very beneficial for the beneficiaries. In the sessions, the patients are guided to perform the exercises properly and later the treating physician determines their evolution and if it is necessary to resume the treatment.

“Hubbard’s Tub deals with complete immersion of the patient who has severe limitations in walking, standing or movement. They are normally indicated for people who have problems in the four extremities of the body, arms and legs, spinal problems or nerve injuries.

What does the treatment consist of?

He explained that the treatment consists of filling the tub with hot water between 36 and 38 degrees and a little less than its maximum capacity of 1,600 liters. The patient is admitted by means of a mechanical crane that loads him and places him inside the tub. Subsequently, the turbines generate movement of the propulsion of the water, which means that the beneficiary can have greater relaxation at the muscular level and perform the indicated exercises, with the help of a family member.

Juan Carlos “N” is a 38-year-old patient who was run over and presented a hip and femur fracture, in addition to the fact that the severe trauma led him to be intubated. After spending a month in intensive care, he is currently rehabilitating in this unit and has managed to bend and support his leg thanks to the sessions in Hubbard’s Tub.

Camacho Aguilar commented that plates and screws were placed on the patient to be able to fix his hip again, which left him with a nerve lesion that caused the signal that comes from the brain to the extremity to be of poor quality, “it is as if It was a cable that is broken, for this reason, his muscles do not receive adequate information and cannot work, nor support him so that he can walk properly ”.

María “N”, mother of Juan Carlos “N”, commented that her son has made great progress in his leg and highlighted the good treatment they have received from the UMFR staff.

“Don’t be afraid to come, there is good treatment, the Institute has a very good team for the rehabilitation of patients, it is a great opportunity that you should not miss out on,” emphasized Juan Carlos “N”‘s mother.
