The Ministry of Transport and Communications reports that on May 1, adjustments to the Rules of the Road (SDA) regarding the use of mobile phones while driving, traffic rules in residential areas and parking lots, transporting a child in a special car seat and other traffic situations come into force. Amendments to the SDA, developed by the ministry, were approved by the government.

Mobile phone use

· It is allowed to use a mobile phone while driving if it is in a special holder and is used with a technical device that allows you to control it without hands;

· The mobile phone may be operated using the hands-free device on the steering wheel or other multimedia systems that the vehicle is equipped with;

· Using a mobile phone hands-free while driving is prohibited unless the vehicle is stationary. This exemption only applies to longer stops, but does not apply to traffic stops, red lights, passing pedestrians, etc.

Traffic in the residential area and in parking lots

· Drivers are prohibited from overtaking in a residential area, in the yards of residential buildings and in parking lots;

It is forbidden to stop and park in parking spaces intended exclusively for vehicles of people with disabilities:

· In residential areas, cyclists are not required to drive in one row and as close to the right edge of the lane as possible.

Pedestrians have priority over vehicles in parking lots. They are allowed to move along the entire carriageway, but they must not interfere with traffic. If there is a pedestrian crossing, it is mandatory to use it.

bike paths

· Pedestrians may cross a cycle path or lane, or use a cycle path if there is no pavement or pedestrian lane on the road. In such cases, pedestrians must walk in such a way that they do not interfere with the movement of cyclists.

Transportation of children

· It is recommended that the child be transported as long as possible in a special seat fixed against the direction of the car. You can transport a child in a new type of seat up to 15 months of age. For safety reasons, the requirements and recommendations specified by the seat manufacturers must be taken into account. It is important that the child is transported in a special seat that is appropriate for the height and weight of the child.

signs

· A new warning road sign #152 “Raiteliai” (“Horsemen”) will appear in Lithuania – it will warn about a section of the road on which horses are often ridden or transported.

· Obsolete obsolete service road signs on a blue background are abolished: No. 706 “Telephone” and No. 725 “Point of interest”. The “Telephone” sign has lost its relevance, as there are no more payphones in Lithuania, and sights are already marked with other road signs on a brown background.

All of the above amendments to the rules of the road will come into force on May 1 this year. Changes to road signs will come into effect on 1 November.
