The Minister Delegate for Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, promised Wednesday new tax cuts during the five-year term for the middle classes, which the government repeatedly wants to support.

“In this five-year term, we will again lower the taxes that weigh on the middle classes”, declared Gabriel Attal during a hearing before the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, recalling that the government had already abolished the tax on housing or reduced income tax by 5 billion euros.

These will be “new announcements”, specified the Ministry of Public Accounts, which however refused to specify the content.

These tax cuts would come at a time when the government has undertaken to increase public spending less rapidly than inflation over the period 2023-2027 in order to accelerate France’s debt reduction.

“Better access to public services”

On April 18, Gabriel Attal declared that he wanted to “continue to build a Marshall plan for the middle classes” to allow them to “live better” from their work.

In addition to the possibility of additional measures for the purchasing power of the middle classes, this requires, according to him, to act on the organization of work and to guarantee “better access to public services”.

Gabriel Attal also plans to detail in the coming weeks a plan to fight against tax and social fraud.

Regarding the fight against informal work, he wants to set Urssaf a target of 5 billion euros in adjustments over the period 2023-2025, compared to 3.5 billion euros adjusted over 2018-2022, according to his ministry.
