RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – Ukrainian plane maker Antonov has pulled out of discussing possible investments in Brazil, citing recent comments made by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva about responsibility for the war between Russia and Ukraine as justification, the concerned government of São Paulo said. In the project.

The Secretariat for International Business of the State of São Paulo released a statement this Wednesday stating that representatives of the Antonov Company decided to suspend negotiations “in light of the latest statements by the federal government”.

The secretariat stated that on April 11 it received Oleksandr Nykonenko and Victor Avdeyev, director and vice-president of Antonov Company, respectively, “on the interest of the Ukrainian state-owned company in developing activities in Brazil, especially in the State of São Paulo”.

During a visit to Abu Dhabi, 10 days ago, Lula stated that the Ukrainian government was one of those responsible for the war and criticized the United States and Europe for supporting Ukraine with weapons, repeating comments he has made over the last few months. The statement sparked international protests and was followed by an invitation from Ukraine for Lula to travel to the country to “understand the real reasons” for the war.

Faced with the negative repercussions, Lula made new statements seeking to reinforce his condemnation of the Russian invasion. In his first speech during his visit to Spain on Thursday, the president said that “it cannot be accepted that one country invades the territorial integrity of another”, in a direct criticism of the Russians.

When contacted, representatives of the federal government did not immediately comment on the matter. Unable to contact Antonov Company.
